2nd Annual Coachella Valley Grand Prix Pickleball Tournament, The Springs

There’s no denying that one of the Valley’s favorite sports, pickleball, is steadily growing. And for the second year in a row, The Springs at Rancho Mirage is hosting the three-day Grand Prix pickleball tournament.

“Well, you can’t find a better place to play the game by looking around,” said Kim Scholz, manager of the Desert Pickleball League. “It’s immaculate, we have little stadium fields for everyone. So it’s great.”

This exciting event featured multiple age categories competing on 16 courts.

“It is the fastest growing sport and our members and owners have embraced pickle ball in a big way,” said Springs Courts committee chair John Turley. “At one point we had 15 to 20 players and now we have over 160.”

No matter if you are an avid pickleball player, the locals took advantage of occasions like these to come together for a good sweat and fun competition.

“It’s just a lot of fun and a family sport. I started with my mom, they live here in Springs and she introduced me to the sport and it’s been a lot of fun ever since,” said Arin Alonzo, resident of Springs. “We actually met here at the pickleball field at La Quinta and we just started competing this year. We’re a big group here in Springs and we’re all good friends and we started competing together and it was a lot of fun. ”
