Another month ! The 2022 FORMULA 1 STC SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX prepares to welcome the return of F1 to Jeddah

With just one month to go, the Saudi Motorsport Company – Promoter of the 2022 FORMULA 1 STC SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX – is finalizing its preparations for the return of the world’s greatest drivers to Jeddah on the weekend of March 25.and – 27and.

Last year’s inaugural F1® The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix produced one of the races of the season, complete with a world-class live entertainment program that made it the biggest sporting and entertainment event the Kingdom has ever staged. As we approach the second installment of the world’s fastest street race, there will be some minor and major additions for fans and riders to watch out for this year.

On track, it has already been confirmed that some minor adjustments will be made to the circuit to help improve driver sightlines from the cockpit by improving visibility around several corners of the circuit, including turns 2, 3, 14 and 21 where barriers will be moved. return between 1.5 m and 2 m. Similarly, the barrier on the right side of turn 27 will be moved back approximately 1.5m to widen the track at this location. In all cases, except turn 27, the track boundary/edge will remain the same.

In addition, other changes will also be made to turns 4, 16, 22 and 24 after consultation with drivers who requested a smoother barrier at the top so that they could possibly graze it when passing. To accommodate this, SMC is installing a steel plate that will effectively wrap around the concrete barriers giving them the smooth surface they need to favor the lines the riders take around the record course.

Additionally, the start time for this year’s race has been moved forward by half an hour to 8 p.m. local time to further maximize the potential for global television audiences and build on the last year’s massive figure of just under 80 million viewers.

Along with technical changes to the track, fans and drivers will also be greeted with a wash of color and style on the Jeddah Corniche circuit courtesy of a renowned Saudi artist. Rex Choukwhose distinctive artwork will decorate the circuit’s clearing area for the race weekend in March.

Sometimes referred to as the ‘Saudi Banksy’, Rex Chouk also keeps his true identity hidden, wearing a mask in public and allowing the art to always be the main attraction.

The Jeddah native – who is back in his hometown after being based in New York – combines pop culture and Arabic influences in his work to produce wildly innovative designs that are both cutting-edge yet eclectic and symbolic of a modern and vibrant culture that beautifully embodies contemporary Saudi Arabia. His art already adorns the offices of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit and will soon be showcased to the world when the new F1 2022 resumes battle on the shores of the Red Sea in a few weeks.

While Jeddah Corniche Circuit itself was built in record time for last year’s inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, work continues on the general complex, including the brand new marina. – which will include a large international hotel as well as shops and restaurants – located just behind turn 13 inclined at 12 degrees.

Further work is also underway on the circuit’s ‘field area’ where a series of restaurants are being built to allow fans to dine in style while enjoying the pinnacle of motor racing right before their eyes.

Additionally, work on the expansion of the Jeddah Corniche, which merges with the circuit complex, continues at a brisk pace and will see the creation of a major new outdoor leisure and recreation area for all residents of Jeddah.

Additionally, the South Grandstand, previously located near Turn 27, will now be relocated to sit next to the Main Grandstand with an unobstructed view of the start/finish line and Turns 1 and 2 – where much of the action happened during the 2021 race – giving fans an enhanced and even more exciting viewing experience.

Finally, the race promoter is also increasing the size and scale of Fanzones ahead of the FORMULA 1 STC SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX 2022, which proved extremely popular with all participants in December.
