F1 CEO Domenicali: “unrealistic” to host the London Grand Prix

The 2022 Formula 1 season will feature a record number of races. The Formula 1 community is excited about what next year has in store for them; one aspect the F1 community loves is a street circuit. But, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is skeptical about hosting a race in London because it is not possible in the short term.

An urban circuit allows intense races, but in addition, it creates a buzz around the city. However, the City of London would have to wait a bit longer as Domenicali doesn’t see it happening in the short term.

A street track not only allows for fierce racing, but also creates a buzz across the city. However, the City of London will have to wait a bit longer, as Domenicali doesn’t believe this will happen anytime soon.

Speaking to Standard Sport quoted by Motorsport.com, Domenicali said, “You should always say never in life, but here we are not trying to sell unrealistic things.”

“We have the UK- supported Silverstone and it is a unique place. It would be quite difficult to come to a city like London and the management of the community would not be easy at all. When you think of something so prestigious, you have to be in the heart of the city. Otherwise, you will devalue it. I don’t think it’s realistic to think this could happen in the short term.

“I see more possibilities in the future, for example a fan show in the city, but I don’t think that organizing a race in an incredible city like London is very likely, at least in the short term” , he explained. (Translated from Turkish via Google)
