F2: Williams junior Sargeant makes history at Silverstone Feature Race
Logan Sargeant refused to let the pressure of a first pole position get to him, putting on a commanding display to claim his first Formula 2 victory in the Silverstone Feature Race – becoming the first American driver to do so in the history of the championship.
Since the beginning of the weekend, Sargeant was the one to beat and nobody could approach him on Sunday. Executing a solid getaway, he held on to the lead as Theo Pourchaire moved from fourth to second as the lights went out before a first safety car appearance on lap two. Contact between Roy Nissany and Dennis Hauger sent the Red Bull junior flying over the sausage curbs and onto the roof of the DAMS car.
F2: Doohan wins his first victory in the Silverstone Sprint Race
On the restart, Sargeant looked comfortably in control, starting to build a gap as the pit stop window opened for those who had started on the soft tyres. This gap was maintained until the last two laps when the sudden acceleration of Pourchaire placed him right in the DRS of Carlin. Sargeant didn’t falter, however, and after saving tire performance he fought his way out of junior Sauber’s grip to claim an emotional victory.

Pourchaire revived his title fight with second place and Liam Lawson gave Carlin the perfect end to their home race weekend by retaining the final podium spot. Waiting for the last seconds of the race, Felipe Drugovich overtook Mercedes junior Frederik Vesti for fourth place. Juri Vips finished fifth, ahead of Jehan Daruvala and his Hitech Grand Prix teammate Marcus Armstrong.
After his victory in the Sprint race on Saturday, Jack Doohan took ninth place, while local hero Jake Hughes climbed to take the last point in 10th.
Although Drugovich still leads the Drivers’ Championship with 148 points, Pourchaire will hope to reclaim more of his advantage next time around, but he’ll have to keep an eye on Sargeant, who got into the fight in third.
The second half of the double-header awaits, as F2 heads to the Austrian countryside and the home of the Red Bull Ring next weekend.
