Formula 1: Horner compares Max Verstappen to Tyson Fury in Lewis Hamilton’s rant
The Formula 1 title race is building up to a spectacular crescendo as Lewis hamilton and Max Verstappen get ready to do battle in the last two races of the season.
Hamilton’s dramatic resurgence in recent times has brought Verstappen back into his vision and you can be sure the Dutchman will be looking anxiously in his mirrors from his top spot.
While the action on the track has been electric, there has been just as much controversy, with each side trying to gain the psychological advantage over the other as the season draws to a close.
Now Red Bull chief Christian Horner is stepping into the battle of words, backing his young driver to the hilt with just two races to go.
Speaking to the media, Horner was adamant in his praise of Verstappen.
“Max drives like Tyson Fury fights. He has the same heart.
“You just know he’s going to give it his all and if you knock him down he’s going to get up.”
“He has this longing, this total commitment. I would put money on Max’s first running lap in Saudi Arabia being the fastest of all the riders.
Horner also hit Hamilton’s apparent searches against his driver.
Addition to The telegraph, he said, “Lewis keeps dropping his little digs or subtle provocations.” But I think what’s good about Max is that he doesn’t care.
“He is who he is. He drives a car quickly. And then he wants to go home and play on his PlayStation. It’s that simple.”
“The maturity that Max has shown throughout the campaign has been extremely impressive.
“He’s relaxed and handles the pressure incredibly well, I think he’s riding better than ever.
“A good example of this was when racing in Qatar, when he felt we couldn’t catch Lewis, but commented on the radio that he ‘wanted to have a little fun’.
The title is here to be won if Max wants it, but you can be sure Hamilton will fight it tooth and nail to make sure that doesn’t happen.
