Hamilton admits it will be “difficult” to beat Verstappen in F1 title | F1
Hamilton claimed his 100th Grand Prix victory last time at the Sochi Autodrom to regain the lead in the drivers’ championship.
The gap is just two runs with seven innings remaining after Verstappen recovered from the back of the grid to finish second in Russia.
Evaluating the battle ahead, Hamilton said, âWell, without a doubt, it will be difficult. I think for two-thirds of the season so far they have had the advantage. However, it was obviously difficult with all kinds of things, curved balls being thrown at both of us and our teams.
âThere is still everything to play in these next races. I think they have a good set of circuits coming up and I anticipate or continue to be very close between us. We just have to hope for good races.
Despite having had the fastest car in the previous two rounds, Hamilton didn’t win at Monza and needed rain to beat Lando Norris in Russia.
Hamilton believes he and Mercedes haven’t maximized their chances in 2021 and called for improvement in the last third of the year.
“Look, it’s not just the two races, there have been a lot of races where we haven’t maximized, as a team, collectively, the two drivers and everyone but we are still fighting and we can continue to improve ourselves, âHamilton added. .
“There are definitely things we are going to try to do better to move forward, but we just won’t give up, we will keep trying, pushing, holding onto and getting the job done.”
