Kachy Stakes: Spycatcher returns home late to land on Lingfield; Fancy Man Passes Winter Derby Trial | Race News

Spycatcher flew over the outside to land an exciting Listed Kachy Stakes renewal for Clifford Lee and Karl Burke.

Stable mate Lord Of The Lodge looked set to claim the prize with 100 yards to go, before being mowed down late by Spycatcher under a delightful ride from Clifford Lee.

Favorite Good Effort lost any chance at the start falling from the stalls, settling to the back before racing halfway through and failing to accelerate in the last kilometer, ultimately settling for third place.

The Listed Kachy Stakes was won by Spycatcher for the Karl Burke team

Royal Ascot winner Rohaan was a disappointment, failing to score a blow after traveling well behind the market principals.

Earlier on the card, Fancy Man clinched the Betway Winter Derby Trial under Sean Levey for Richard Hannon’s team.

Despite swinging very wide in the final turn, the combo had enough momentum to pull away from leader Al Zaraqaan who eventually fell back to fourth.

King Of The South stayed well to finish second to Callum Shepherd, with Living Legend a neck third under Jason Hart.

Jockey Sean Levey was very impressed with Fancy Man’s ride as he clinched the Betway Winter Derby Trial at Lingfield on Saturday.

The winning driver said after the race: “He is picking up a really good pace at a high pace and that allows him to finish his race.

“If anything, it lacks a rhythm although today it looks like it does – I had to go a lot earlier than I wanted to but we were going so slowly.

“We went around the corner at a good pace and I was just letting him drift to keep his balance. Once he straightened up he was good and true – he felt a bit lonely in front and got probably saw the house.”
