Minerva’s Oktoberfest is scheduled from noon to 7 p.m. on October 2 in the City Park, with live music, food, artisans, children’s activities, contests and craft breweries. There is no entrance fee for the festival.
Live music begins at noon with The Polka Pirates, playing polkas and other tunes, followed by T. Free & the Panic Attacks at 3pm. The groups are sponsored by Patterson Specialty Services and the Hart Mansion Restaurant.
Family activities will include take-out craft and art projects, free pumpkin painting sponsored by Gionino Pizzeria, pony rides, petting zoo, inflatables, Lost French Golf treasure hunt sponsored by Bartley Funeral Home with a Gold Nugget Grand Prize, Gold Search with the Gold Prospector’s Association of America, Pumpkin Bowling and more.
Entries for the pastry competition must be received before noon, with the categories adults, adolescents and young people. Registrations for the sack races will begin at 1:30 p.m., and at 2:00 p.m. races for all ages will begin.
A duck race will be held at Sandy Creek in the park at 2:30 p.m., with all proceeds going towards renovations to the Roxy Theater. The first prize is $ 200, sponsored by Loudon Motors Ford; second, $ 100 and third, $ 50, sponsored by Patterson Specialty Services. Ducks cost $ 5 each, or five for $ 20, and are available at the House office or at the park on festival day.
A Dress-Your-Dog competition will take place at 4 p.m., with prizes for the three cutest costumed dogs. Registration for the competition opens at 3:30 p.m.
The Beer Mug Lifting Competition returns this year and will be held on stage around 5:30 p.m., with both male and female divisions. The person who can hold a full beer mug parallel to the ground with an outstretched arm the longest will be declared the winner, receiving a commemorative Oktoberfest mug.
A variety of food choices will be available, along with beers from Sandy Springs Brewing Company, Aeonian Brewing Company, and UnHitched Brewing Company.
Minerva Athletic Boosters will be offering a beer garden serving Budweiser products on Friday, October 1 from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Saturday, October 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Football matches will be shown in the beer garden throughout the day.
Artisans, businesses and community groups will have merchandise for sale and information available throughout the festival.
The main festival sponsors are Medicine Center Pharmacy, Consumers National Bank, Great Trail Golf Course, AAM Metal Forming – Minerva Manufacturing Facility and Real Integrity Real Estate Services.
