New date for the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas
The Circuit of the Americas will host the Red Bull MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas from October 1-3, as the Japanese Grand Prix was unable to confirm its availability to host on the scheduled date.
This will give American riders Joe Roberts and Cameron Beaubier a chance to compete in front of a local crowd.
Roberts is aiming for his first podium in 2021 in Moto2, having moved closer to the Grands Prix of Portugal and Italy with fourth places. In Italy, Roberts crossed the finish line third before being penalized for a track limit penalty that caused him to lose one position.
Roberts was stripped of another podium at the Portuguese Grand Prix in Round 3 after contact from a competitor on the last lap.
As a rookie in Moto2, Beaubier won four top-10s in the first eight rounds. His best result is eighth in Italy.
âUnfortunately, because we have to rearrange the non-European part of the calendar, we need to know that now. Then, talking with Japan, they weren’t able to assure us that October 3 was the expected date for this, âsaid Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sport. âWe regret to say that this year it will not be possible to be in Motegi as it was the last years before the pandemic. We are very happy to work with MobilityLand since 1992. Japan is a very important country for us because three first class manufacturers are there.
MobilityLand is the promoter of the Japanese Grand Prix.
âWe have prepared for this year’s MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix in hopes of bringing the event back to Japan this fall,â said Kaoru Tanaka, president of MobilityLand Corporation. âIn order for the planning for the second half of the season to be done, we had to make a decision to ensure that the event takes place now at this time. Considering the current travel conditions and restrictions on stays in Japan and abroad, we came to the conclusion that we had no choice but to cancel the Grand Prix. It is a very unfortunate result.
“On the other hand, the Formula 1 Honda Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday October 10, 2021 at the Suzuka circuit and the Suzuka 8 Hour Endurance Road Race on Sunday November 7, 2021 are now actively preparing to go as planned.”
As part of the reorganization, the Thai Grand Prix will move to the calendar one week later from October 15 to 17.
