Ons Jabeur and Bianca Andreescu take place in 2R

Ons Jabeur reached the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Tuesday. The Tunisian, seeded seventh in the German city, emerged from a set down to beat Marketa Vondrousova, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Jabeur lost his serve only once – in the first set.

In the last two sets, she faced two break points, both of which she saved. On the other hand, the Czech saved some break points in the first set but then lost her serve three times in the last two sets. After his victory, Jabeur said: “I thought I was going for the shots, but when you play against someone who picks up all the balls, they kind of go through your head.

The second set was much better, I was trying to be more aggressive and take more chances. I have to say playing a lot of games lately has given me a lot of confidence, going from Charleston to here.” In the second round, Jabeur will face Daria Kasatkina.

The Russian beat Coco Gauff in their first-round clash, 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 19 minutes.

Porsche Tennis Grand Prix: Bianca Andreescu starts with a victory

A former US Open champion, Bianca Andreescu’s return to the tour began on a triumphant note as she reached the second round.

The Canadian outlasted German wildcard Jule Niemeier 7-6(5), 6-3 in an hour and 44 minutes. Next up for Andreescu is third seed and defending runner-up Aryna Sabalenka, who received a first-round bye. Elena Rybakina won her first round match against Nastasja Mariana Schunk.

The Kazakh needed two hours and two minutes to clinch a 7-6(3), 7-5 win over the German qualifier. Rybakina will face second seed Paula Badosa for a spot in the quarter-finals. Another German qualifier, Eva Lys, meanwhile reached the second round with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 victory over Viktorija Golubic.

It was Lys’ first victory on the WTA main tour. Looking to back up her win, Lys will next face the top seed, Iga Swiatek. Tamara Korpatsch defeated Camila Giorgi 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-1 in three hours and 10 minutes in their first round match.

The German will face either Australian qualifier Storm Sanders or eighth seed Emma Raducanu. Earlier on Monday, Liudmila Samsonova and Ekaterina Alexandrova reached the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
