The highly anticipated Magical Kenya Ladies Open is the Ladies European Tour (LET) season opener for 2022, returning to Vipingo Ridge, County Kilifi, in February after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19.

Preparations for the event are well underway as organizers U.COM Event and Vipingo Ridge prepare to host a spectacular tournament, the only women’s professional golf competition in the East African region. The tournament will take place from February 10-13, 2021 on the 18-hole Baobab Course at Ridge, the only PGA-accredited course on the continent.

First held in late 2019, the tournament brings together golfers of many different nationalities who compete for the prestigious title. Speaking at the announcement of the event, Vipingo Ridge Chairman Alastair Cavenagh said the government, through the Sports Arts and Development Fund, in conjunction with the Department of Sports, had once again generously stepped up its support for the event by providing the prize fund for the event. .

“We are delighted to announce that the Magical Kenya Ladies Open will take place this year after a two year absence. We can say with confidence that we are all ready for this tournament and delighted to see it return after an imposed 2 year break. by Covid. We look forward to welcoming players, organizers and spectators to experience the wonders Vipingo Ridge has to offer,” said Cavenagh.

For his part, U.COM Managing Director Dirk Glittenberg said a limited group of 96 players will be eligible to play at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open 2022 with a prize money of €300,000 (approximately 38.8 million of KES).

“Players really love to play in Kenya and this is yet another great opportunity to promote Kenya as a golf destination to the world and also support Kenyan golf. The event will be produced for live TV coverage during four days, with the global feed distributed to 69 countries around the world,” he said.

He added that in accordance with government regulations on the Covid-19 pandemic, the event will be held in strict compliance with health and safety protocols.

“We are aware that times and circumstances have changed with the Covid-19 pandemic still rearing its ugly head and we have therefore ensured that we have put in place adequate measures to protect the health of all people. who will be involved in the event. All government protocols regarding the Covid-19 pandemic will be fully implemented throughout the tournament. »
