Silent Escape wins Listed award as Godolphin reigns supreme
Silent Escape took a Godolphin one-two-three home in the Dubai Duty Free Cup in Newbury
Previously successful at Newcastle and Sandown this season, Saeed bin Suroor’s filly was a 16-5 favorite to take three wins in four starts at the hands of champion jockey Oisin Murphy, who was positive from the start.
The New Approach girl led down the middle of the track much of the way, with Charlie Appleby’s pair D’bai and Al Suhail chasing unsuccessfully into the last furrow.
However, Silent Escape wasn’t for catching, with Murphy pushing her to win a length and a half behind D’bai, with the other common favorite Al Suhail closing in on third place.
Bin Suroor said, “She won well. She has improved since her last run and looked great today, although the ground was a bit soft for her.
“We’re happy with the way she finished her race, but now I want to bring her back to Dubai for the season there.
“We’re going to keep her on the grass. Well, we’ll keep the options open, but I think we’ll keep it on the ground. She is a nice filly, but I want to take care of her for the future.
“She’s only lost once, this filly – but since then she’s been improving all the time.
“The big key to her is the soil – when she works on good to soft soil, she acts better on it.
“I think she will do a mile. But looking at the pedigree, by New Approach, he raced in the Derby. Oisin said a mile is good for her now.
“There are some great races for her in Dubai. “
