US Figure Skating Announces Men’s Team for 2022 Winter Olympics: Chen, Zhou, Brown

At 6:45 p.m. ET, US Figure Skating announced the men’s roster for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The following three athletes will represent Team USA at the Games:

  • Nathan Chen
  • Vincent zhou
  • Jason brown

After breaking his own national short program record on Saturday, Chen executed a beautiful – albeit imperfect – free skate on Sunday for a total of 328.01 gold medals. The victory marks Chen’s sixth consecutive title at the US Figure Skating Championships. The 2022 Winter Games will see Chen’s second Olympic appearance, following PyeongChang 2018.

Zhou performed almost as well as Chen in the short program, but succumbed to nervousness in a messy free skate on Sunday. He still reached third place, after coming second in the 2021 event. Zhou, who finished sixth at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, won the 2021 Skate America Grand Prix.

The third berth has become a much more controversial choice after the U.S. Nationals of 2022. Although Jason Brown had the strongest resume – including medals in his two 2021 Grand Prix events this fall – Ilia Malinin won the ‘money at the prestigious competition.
